In Which I Say Goodbye to Cat

My cat Cat, who has been with my family since I was 3 years old, died two days after Thanksgiving. I've compiled a few of her pictures to remember her by and a poem that I feel does her kitty-ness justice.

The Cat of Cats

I am the cat of cats. I am
The everlasting cat!
Cunning, and old, and sleek as jam,
The everlasting cat!
I hunt the vermin in the night --
The everlasting cat!
For I see best without the light --
The everlasting cat!

-- William Brighty Rands

My everlasting cat, Cat.

Cat and Merry, with whom she never got along very well, but occasionally would tolerate.

Where we buried Cat. The little dot is one of her hairballs.

The day we were to bury Cat, we received this unexpected card from the vet we took her to the day she died. A very kind gesture from them.

**ETA: I forgot to say that she bit a piece of my ear off one day when I rolled on top of her while I was sleeping, thus earning her the nickname of Cat Tyson!

  3. Christina,
My sympathies for your loss. I just finally found you via Runner's World and I am also a foodie, runner, and cat lover.

Let's all raise a toast of milk and eat some smoked salmon in honor of the felines in our lives....

  5. Oh, I'm so sorry about your loss. I still dream about my cat after 12 years--and he was the cat that introduced me to the unequivocal fact that I am fairly allergic to all things feline. I hope that you and your family have fun sharing happy kitty memories over the next few weeks.

  6. Mary - Thank you, we really appreciate it.

Gretchen - It does, she was the most vocal out of the three so it's a bit strange not hearing her. That, and the little things she used to do.

Miss Tenacity - Oh, hello! I think I remember seeing you post there. Your sig line was about runner's knee or something? Overpronation? Or that could just be way off!

And don't forget to include tuna water, that was her favorite. Seriously... she drank it up like a glutton!

Mimi - Thanks for stopping by. It's strange to think Cat won't be here anymore but I won't forget her (her everlasting mark is on my ear!).

Chou - Ah, well I'm sure he had the best allergic owner ever!

    Thanks for your thoughts.

  8. So sorry about Cat. I lost my 17 year old Yorkie last February and still cry when I think of him. We got another Yorkie puppy in March and he's a real joy.

  10. Hey, really sorry to hear about your cat =( My cat's just as evil, hates humans, but I know how attached you can become even when they hate you! And about the Tiger cake, that picture was the original recipe by 'A Cat in the Kitchen' (Link on my blog), the bottom two photos were mine since I don't have a teddy mould either!

  11. Shayne - Thanks. I know it will be the little things she did that I'll miss the most.

Lynnylu - Thanks for sharing about Basil =).

Valerie - I read about your dog, it's such a sad thing to lose a pet because they really do become like a member of your family and not just an animal.

Frapp - Lol, yes, Cat did have a habit of "disliking" a person immensely if they woke her up!

Thanks for the info about the cake. I'm going to keep my eyes open for a teddy mold because it's just so cute!

  12. I'm so sorry about your cat. Cats are the best kind of friend because they love you no matter what and never question you about anything. The same day you lost Cat, my parents had to put down my cat Lancelot who was 18. I'm glad Lance and Cat went to cat heaven on the same day--it's hard to be the new guy all by yourself.

  13. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how hard this must be. She's a very cute cat.
She looks like my cat, Sage. He died a year ago, a few days before Thanksgiving. It's been a hard year without him.
